My Sunday Photo... Window Feeder

Today, I am able to show you that the new window bird feeder has been a success.
I've spent far too long waiting to try and obtain a reasonable photo of the Blue Tit and Great Tit visiting, but finally today was the day... my patience paid off.
This type of feeder is perfect if you have cats or live in an apartment block, or above ground level.
The birds will come and be perfectly safe whilst feeding.
The birds fly in so quickly and with such amazing precision they fly off again... all within the blink of an eye and a beak full of peanut!
It's also amazing to see the birds so close.
They even visit when we are standing at the kitchen sink, which is right in front of the feeder.
I had planned to post a different photo for My Sunday Photo this week, but I was so thrilled to capture this image... I had to share it.
If you'd like to see more photo's then click here to be transported to Photalife link up and

Thanks for your visit... I'm always thrilled to have you pop in, especially if you leave a comment.
Have a great weekend

  1. It's great to be able to see the birds close up. We have a feeder at the end of our garden, although sadly it doesn't appear to attract many birds.

    1. Maybe if you moved the feeder it might prove more popular. Is there any tree near the feeder, so that the birds can use it as a launching and landing pad. The window feeder is a great way for kids to see wildlife up close and personal. It's fascinating watching them.

    1. I was up close to the window Mike, but it helped having my new camera lens. They are getting used to us being at the sink and don't seem to mind. I think they're eyes are on the prize!

    1. I've had a few sessions of standing and waiting for the wee birdies to arrive... but I'd very often give up without success.
This particular time I came into the kitchen and walked right up to the window, as he flew in. I spooked him and he flew into a nearby plant, but I knew he'd return as he hadn't managed to take anything. I grabbed my camera and sure enough he returned. Success on both accounts. He got his peanut reward and I finally got the shot I wanted.

I still have to stop in my tracks, when they land... especially if I'm near the window.

    1. Thanks Sue, I ran out of peanuts for half a day, so they were very keen and happy to have the feeder replenished.
I hope you have a great week ahead.

  6. Hi Neesie, I never knew there was such a thing as a window bird feeder, but what a clever creation! I think I know what I may be getting my niece and nephew for Christmas and I look forward to seeing more closeup photos of the birds on your feeder too.

    1. It is indeed Martin. This particular feeder came from Lidl, but I've seen them online and in DIY stores.
I wouldn't have believed that such a simple thing would bring so much amusement.

    1. I have three feeding stations around our house, but I think this feeder can be used by anyone, whether they have gardens or not, cats living or visiting the premises. They are a winner... plus you get to see the birds so close. I'm sure your girls would love it.

    1. I know Rita, it's wasn't until I saw that last still photograph, that I realised just how big the peanut is in relation to the BlueTit.
They flight in and out so quickly, that I've never really seen the detail before.

    1. Thanks Giggles, I have to admit I was rather thrilled with these photo's, especially that last one. The peanut looks huge to the bird... but they love them. They take one and fly into a nearby tree to peck at it. I would image it wouldn't take many to fill them up, plus they are full of energy for the wee toot!

  17. Oh Denise - you are so lucky to have had this experience. I never could get one of those window feeders to attract birds. I guess you did not use a flash so there was no reflection in the window. But what about the window itself - how did you keep from having any reflections!! Love the peanut in the bird's beak - that is the best one for sure!!! Can you tell about the camera and the lens you used?
    Thanks - Sandy xx

    1. I was lucky Sandy, but we do have quite a few feeders dotted around the house already, so it was just one more to choose from. As for using a flash... I try never to use flash for any photo's. I read it somewhere that you can never get a good photo using a flash, so I try hard to do without. There was reflections of the opposite windows and fields, so I had to stand slightly to the side making sure they weren't in the shot. Precision eh?
I never realised just how big the peanuts are, in comparison to the little Bluetit. Precision timing for that particular shot! (hehe)
I have to admit I was thrilled with capturing that moment.
My camera is a Nikon D3200 with a Nikon DX 55-300mm lens

    1. I heard today on the radio that watching birds and wildlife is good for the mindset. I'm so lucky to live in the countryside where there's always something to capture the eye. I seem to love it more and more with each year.
